Tea is boring, coffee is great?
Italian try to convince the world that tea is boring, coffee is great. It works. Have you ever captivated with the romance of the Italian coffee experience? In Italy, coffee comes in tiny quantities, and it doesn’t usually come in takeaway cups, you stand, drink and go. If you order a “caffè” in Italy, you’ll always get an espresso. But this tiny cup is strong enough to get you fueled all day long. If you ask for a “latte” in Italy, you’ll most probably get a cup of cold milk. You should order “latte macchiato” which consist of hot milk add on the coffee. If you’re a de-caffeine drinker, you're better change to order hot chocolate because de-caffeine coffee is not common in Italy.
I was attracted to try Italian coffee in Antico Caffe Greco. It was one of the most best known and oldest bar (opened in 1760) in Rome and within Italy. Historical figures of artists, writers and musicians including Stendhal, Goethe, Bertel Thorvaldsen, Mariano Fortuny, Byron, Franz Liszt, Keats, Henrik Ibsen, Hans Christian Andersen, Felix Mendelssohn, Morrissey, Wagner, Levi, María Zambrano have had coffee there. The fame of the café has attracted influx of tourists which make it always a bit too crowded.
Japanese is always wanted to add more fun on coffee. It's so cutie! The cup of coffee looks so lovely by adding the “Hirokichi” cat vanilla sweets. The head of the cat is floating and drowning in the liquid or see the little marshmallows paws prints adding more fun to your sip of drink. Or you will feel warm after you watch this love story illustrate from the latte art.
Americans are rather obsessed with coffee? Yes, United States is the single biggest consumer of coffee in the world. People get hooked on coffee to get them fueled or as an excuse to spend time together with buddies. Some people comment that coffee in America is bad as if drinking black water. Unlike in Italy, France, Spain or even Eastern Europe, you’ll be amazed at how good their coffee taste. Is American coffee really that bad? Oh, that reminds me someone had told me an interesting story about President Abraham Lincoln and coffee. One day, Lincoln got his cup of coffee in a restaurant and after he tasted it, he told the waiter: if this one is coffee, please give me tea; if this is tea, please give me coffee. May be Lincoln had gone into a wrong restaurant. Every country has bad coffee and I don’t know that America has more bad coffee than other country.
Australia takes coffee seriously with its unique coffee culture. The little cafés around Australia are brewing their own coffee, fresh and local. The person who makes the coffee in a café is a barista. Your favorite barista knows how to make your coffee just as you like it. Even Starbuck is unable to take hold in Australia because the coffee in the little local café is too good. When you're sitting down at a little café in Australia, order a cup of coffee, make your own judgment for how is it different with Starbuck.
Months before, my friend (Mary) went into a restaurant and ordered a cup of coffee. After a while, the waiter asked her, “how’s is your coffee?”
Mary: "Well, I want my coffee like a gorgeous woman.”
Waiter: "Sorry, madam. I can’t get it!"
Mary replied: "I mean the coffee should be hot and with good taste!"
